Numerous requests from Italian wine producers prompted The Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry for the UK to organise VINOTECA 2013, an event aimed at the promotion of Italian wine in the UK market.
The event took place on the 28th February 2013 at the Tower of London, a fabulous landmark in the British capital. Despite being the first ever edition, 30 wine producers participated, coming from 9 regions across Italy. Not only this, but the day welcomed over 130 visitors, the majority being importers, distributors, buyers, agents and sommeliers. Vinoteca also hosted journalists renowned for their experience in the wine trade, coming from places such as the UK Sommelier Association, Institute of Masters of Wine, and the Academy of Food and Wine Service, as well as representatives from the main Italian institutions in London.
Vinoteca 2013 was set up as a B2B event, open exclusively to professionals in the industry. The format was greatly enjoyed by both exhibitors and visitors, as it allowed the former to get to know the buyers personally, and the latter to immerse themselves in wines of particular interest to them.
The event also acted as the setting for the ceremony Ospitalita’ Italiana, Ristoranti Italiani nel Mondo, which awarded 11 exceptional Italian restaurants from across the UK. The initiative brought additional value to the day as a whole, as it allowed the wine producers to meet and talk to the winning restaurateurs.
The event was put together using intensive marketing via the various channels of the ICCIUK, such as the website, newsletter, Facebook and Twitter pages, as well as via the Chambers in Italy. An iPad app was also created especially for the event, with a description of each exhibitor.
